FAQs from 23.08.2020:

        1. Do we have to provide power for the automated measuring box?
          The Automated measuring box is powered by its own.
        2. Is it necessary to protect/integrate the automated measuring box?
          The box will be able to withstand all climatic conditions by itself. If you place it in a safe place in case of a crash, this is much appreciated: We only have a limited number of boxes.
        3. Is it allowed to cover the automated measuring box with foil?
          We suggest to give the upper plane of the automated measuring box a clear view to the sky to allow for a good gps reception.
          However it is your decision to cover it. Please keep in mind:
          a) that the mounting and dismounting of the measuring box should work fast and well (necessary for every flight!)
          b) the gps reception is your responsibility. Be aware that the reliability of the GPS signal may be worsened and that will not be a reason for a reflight!
        4. Can we use a BEC or power distribution board to supply the servos from the main battery?
          No! The receiver and the servos have to be independently powered to ensure a controllable aircraft if anything breaks or overheats at the powertrain. We highly recommend using a 2s LiPo battery that is directly attached to the receiver and servos. If your servos don’t allow 2s LiPos we recommend using a commerical off-the-shelf voltage regulator for the servos only. This way you can get a telemetry warning if your receiver detects a low voltage. Keep in mind that servos can consume a lot of current and use an adequately dimensioned regulator. Sometimes it’s a good idea to put one regulator to every servo. Contact us if you have problems or questions!
        5. How will you measure the size requirement for the rhombus shaped box?
          We will build a real rhombus box with hinges. The aircraft has to fit inside and we will check if any part is going over the top of 50cm.
        6. How should the airplane be placed inside the rhombus shaped box?
          You have to place it “ready for take-off”, standing by itself.
        7. The propeller must fit in the rhombus shaped box?
          Yes, all parts have to fit in. including the propeller.
        8. Is there any tolerance allowed for the transportation box size?
          The size is absolute maximum for the transportation box. You may make it smaller.
        9. The airplane spare parts need to fit into the transportation box?
          You may bring additional spares outside of the box, as long as the entire aircraft fits inside one transportation box. All changes of parts have to be cleared with us at the competition.
        10. If we have an altitude of 100 m at flight-time 45s and 119m at flight-time 60s, what is the registered height value for the climb score formula?
          Only the altitude after 60s will be used for evaluation. In this example 119m.
        11. Only the distance travelled from flight time 60 s to 180 s counts for the total covered distance?
        12. If only a small number of teams apply until the application deadline, will you consider allowing extra application time for a second team per institution or consider the possibility of receiving team guests as previous years?
          If there are still seats available (our limitation is the maximum seat count at the final dinner) we will allow additional guests or team members. We do not plan to allow more than one team per university. Checking if the teams really are independent and the designs are different is almost impossible.
          We will be at a public place for the flight competition. This means that the general public will be invited to this event! (not including the final dinner, technical inspection is still in planning)
          FAQs from 25.08.2020:
        13. Are changes in the CG  because of different payload amount allowed?
          No, the cg should move as little as possible. We will allow for small CG changes toward the front. This should be outlined in your CG calculation, if you need it.
        14. Can we use tools for the static load test?

        15. How is the static load test done with winglets or swept wings?
          See Regulations V1.10 for an update.
        16. What is the mixture between water and starch?
          We will do some tests and tell you soon. The consistency will be close to water, for us to be able to fill the bags.
          FAQs from 04.09.2020:
        17. What about the pilot insurance over 1.000.000€?
          Basically you need a model aircraft insurance (or an insurance that covers model aircrafts; a lot of them don’t or only up to 5kg mass) that is valid in Germany/EU with a minimum amount of 1.000.000€ coverage.
          We will give you more information next year on all the legal things regarding the pilot. (There are some law changes coming into effect 01.01.2021…) We will then help you with all necessary registrations or insurances. (For your calculation: an all-year insurance in Germany is 40-60€, the registration of the pilot may cost a maximum of  40-50€ as well, but maybe we don’t need that or only one of the two registrations.
          FAQs from 08.10.2020:
        18. Is it allowed to have 2 pilots?
          Yes, you may have more than one pilot as long as you fulfill:
          – every pilot has the required insurance and permits (more on that in 2021, there are some major changes at the moment)
          – maximum of one pilot that is not from your institution.
          – you only use one pilot per flight!
